VaccinarSì turns 13: providing independent scientific information for 13 years.
On 8 May 2013, VaccinarSì — a medical and scientific information portal on vaccinations, created by SITI (the Italian Society of Hygiene, Preventive Medicine and Public Health), under the patronage of the Ministry of Health and the National Institute of Health — launched its first online publication. Today marks a milestone that testifies to the strength of a project created to combat misinformation and foster a culture of prevention amongst the public.
A portal built to make a difference.
In May 2013, at a time when the Internet still lacked reliable sources on vaccinations in Italian, VaccinarSì launched its website with a clear mission: to provide the public with up-to-date medical information, verified by a qualified Scientific Committee, accessible to everyone and free from commercial influence.
Over the past thirteen years, the portal has established itself as one of the leading resources for communication on vaccination in Italy, progressively expanding its thematic sections: preventable diseases, available vaccines, the benefits and risks of vaccination, combating misinformation, vaccinations for travellers, and strategies for tackling pandemics.
A project that extends beyond the national portal.
The success of VaccinarSì has generated an information ecosystem that extends to the regional level. Based on the national model, portals have been launched that address specific local circumstances and needs:
- Vaccinarsi in Veneto since 1 March 2015,
- Vaccinarsi in Puglia since 16 May 2017,
- Vaccinarsi in Toscana since 23 May 2017,
- ‘Vaccinarsi in Sicilia’ from 11 August 2017,
- ‘Vaccinarsi in Sardegna’ from 3 November 2017,
- ‘Vaccinarsi in Liguria’ from 16 February 2018,
- ‘Vaccinarsi in Campania’ from 23 April 2018,
- ‘Vaccinarsi in Lazio’ from 24 April 2018,
- Vaccinations in the Marche from 26 April 2019,
- Vaccinations in Trentino from 17 September 2019,
- Vaccinations in Piedmont from 1 April 2022,
- Vaccinations in South Tyrol from 28 July 2025.
Others are currently under development, each in close collaboration with local health authorities.
The VaccinarSì project is also active on social media — a vital tool for reaching younger sections of the population — and, in an original and symbolically powerful way, through the VaccinarSì Amateur Sports Association, which now regularly takes part in major national cycling events, bringing the message of vaccination prevention to the world of competitive sport.
Coming soon: the revision of ‘Science and Knowledge’.
To mark this important anniversary, VaccinarSì announces the forthcoming launch of the update and comprehensive revision of the ‘Science and Knowledge’ section, the scientific heart of the portal. The update will cover all sections — from fact sheets on preventable diseases to available vaccines, from pages dedicated to travellers to fact-checking content — with the aim of incorporating the latest scientific evidence and further improving the accessibility of the content for the general public.
